The National Population Commission (NPC) yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, in a meeting with stakeholders, organized in anticipation for a successful conduct of the population and housing census said the exercise slated next year will mark a major milestone in the journey towards the first ever digital census in Nigeria.
A Federal Commissioner of NPC, Dr Ipalibo Harry said that the objective of the meeting themed ‘getting people involved’ was to create public awareness on the conduct of the 2023 census, including its imperatives, methodology and timeliness.
Harry also said the meting which was also meant to promote robust and informed conversation on the processes and procedures for the 2023 census, was organised to solicit the cooperation and support of state level stakeholders for the conduct of the census.
“The goal of census taking is to ensure that the results are acceptable and credible hence the need for engagement with the stakeholders to get their feedback on the instruments and enrich the process”, he said.
