Governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Friday at the university campus, commissioned a 50 units of one-bedroom semi-detached houses to University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) staff.
He stated that the state government would get involved and work with a Micro Finance Bank (MIFB) for staff to be able to acquire properties of their own. Adding that “aside from donating these houses to the university staffs, they are to pay install mentally through their salaries on an owner-occupier housing scheme’’.
Zulum, a former staff of UNIMAID Faculty of Engineering, also promised to build a standard structure for the faculty, and will be assisting the department of civil engineering with N100 million worth of engineering teaching equipment due to the fact that it could not meet its accreditation programme and further assured the staff that portable water requirements will be met”.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, thanked the governor for his continuous support towards the institution, he described Zulum as a commendable ambassador of the university and the involvement of the state government in the dire area of housing which the institute has been facing.
