The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to abandon its broom logo in favor of a house symbol. This request comes amid Nigeria’s pressing housing crisis, which HDAN believes should be a priority for the party.

During a recent appearance on Housing TV Africa, HDAN Executive Director Festus Adebayo argued that the broom, once emblematic of the fight against corruption, no longer inspires confidence among Nigerians. “The broom may have been a good symbol for sweeping away corruption, but today Nigerians need roofs over their heads,” Adebayo stated.

With millions of low-income Nigerians lacking decent housing, Adebayo emphasized that the need for affordable homes is both a social responsibility and an economic necessity. “Every home built creates jobs and boosts GDP,” he added, urging the APC to demonstrate a genuine commitment to development by making housing delivery a central part of its agenda.

He also challenged political leaders to set measurable housing targets and collaborate with private developers to address Nigeria’s estimated 28 million housing deficit. Adebayo argued that adopting a house symbol would serve as a constant reminder to leaders that shelter is a fundamental right and a driver of progress.

The call has sparked debate among housing advocates, with many praising it as a bold and symbolic move that could reshape the APC’s identity in the eyes of the public. As discussions around the housing crisis continue, the HDAN’s proposal may prompt the APC to reconsider its branding and priorities in the face of growing public demand for actionable solutions.
