Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has allocated N8.2 billion for the completion of the Kabala-Costain road project, which was previously abandoned due to design flaws and funding issues. The announcement was made by Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), during a site visit.

The total expenditure includes N2.2 billion to settle debts inherited from the previous administration and N6 billion to mobilize the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to resume work.

The project was reported to be only 35% complete at the time Governor Sani took office. Dr. Ahmed emphasized that the previous administration’s claims of 70% completion were misleading.

The Chief Consultant, Engr. Shakirudeen Adesina Akinloye, noted that the original design contained unsafe features, including a sharp curve that posed accident risks. The redesign includes a gentle curve and an additional bridge to mitigate flooding.

The Kabala-Costain road spans 2.7 kilometers, linking Aliyu Makama Road and Costain Junction in Kaduna North. Upon completion, it is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Kaduna North and South.

Dr. Baba Ahmed praised Governor Sani for his commitment to reviving the project, highlighting that the new administration has not only cleared existing debts but also prioritized quality infrastructure development. The project manager for CCECC, Mr. Henry Zhang, confirmed that operations have resumed and expressed determination to deliver a high-quality road that supports economic growth.

The Kabala-Costain dualization project aims to enhance traffic flow and connectivity in Kaduna, with the government emphasizing its commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges and ensuring public safety.
