A devastating fire broke out early Wednesday morning at the Ngobros Factory, located on Obidiah Road in Nnewi, Anambra State. The fire, which started around 5:45 AM, quickly engulfed the facility, destroying office equipment and flammable materials before firefighters arrived on the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted unexpectedly, trapping two workers inside the factory. Fortunately, they were rescued by firefighters who responded swiftly after receiving an emergency call at 6:10 AM. The commander of the Fire Service in Nnewi, Anwuobi Jeremiah, confirmed that no casualties were recorded, though substantial damage occurred.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, as there was no electricity supply to the area where the blaze started. Chikelu Edwin, the factory’s Internal Auditor, described the incident as a “mystery fire,” emphasizing the surprise it caused among residents still asleep at the time.
The fire service was able to control the situation after several hours of battling the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of Media and Publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, reassured the public that measures were being taken to ensure the complete extinguishment of the fire.
This incident follows recent reports of fires in the region, raising concerns about safety protocols in local factories. The community remains on alert as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Wednesday’s fire.
