The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has shut down Yakoyo Abula Joint Restaurant located in Victoria Island for illegally discharging untreated wastewater and oils into public drains. This action took place on Tuesday after officials discovered that the restaurant’s discharges were clogging drainage systems, posing health risks from potential waterborne diseases.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the closure on his official X account. He stated that the deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater constitutes a significant public nuisance and environmental pollution.

This closure is part of the state’s ongoing enforcement campaign, #ZeroToleranceLagos, targeting establishments that violate environmental regulations. Wahab also reported the recent sealing of another building in the Lekki Peninsula for similar infractions involving untreated wastewater discharge onto public roads.

The Lagos State government is committed to maintaining environmental standards and ensuring public health safety amidst rising concerns over pollution in the state.
