The Lagos State government has issued a 7-day ultimatum to estate developers operating without approved layout plans, demanding they regularize their documents or face severe penalties, including potential demolition.

Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, emphasized the urgency during an on-the-spot inspection in the Eti-Osa corridor. This directive follows the expiration of a previous grace period granted to flagged estates to correct their planning documentation.

The state government has identified 176 illegal estate developments, primarily located in Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe. Olumide reiterated the importance of obtaining proper approvals before engaging in land subdivision, sales, or construction.

“The state government will no longer tolerate developments that compromise orderly and sustainable urban growth,” he stated, marking this week as the last chance for developers to submit their layout plans. He warned that failure to comply will result in sanctions ranging from heavy fines to demolition, depending on the severity of the violations.
