Abandoned Abuja buildings to undergo stress test

Following the incident of collapsed building in Abuja recently, authorities are planning to do stress test on all abandoned structures, Viewpoint Housing News was told Tuesday.

A source in the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) said a circular to that effect is underway.

Due to frequent falling down of buildings, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under Adamu Aliero, in 2009 directed that any developer whose building collapses would have title of the plot revoked and converted to a public park or any public structure that would serve the interest of residents of the territory.

The call for stress test is apparently another way of forestalling the ugly happening.

A three-storey building under construction in Jabi area of Abuja collapsed on Friday 17 August, 2018 killing four persons in a massive rubble.

Preliminary investigations point to the fact that construction rules were not well followed.

The Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) has since concluded its preliminary findings and will soon submit them to FCTA.
