Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by yet another fire that engulfed the Keffi main market (Nasarawa State) in the early hours of Friday.
Many stores were destroyed as effort to put out the fire fell through. Nobody could identify the cause of the inferno.
A trader whose shop was burnt said, “This is not the first time a fire incident of this magnitude is happening in this market. The unfortunate thing is that it is always at this time of the year that it happens.”
Some people were not happy with the Fire Service as they were said to have arrived the scene when the fire had almost got out of control.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Labaran Maku reacted to the incident on facebook saying, “I wish to express concern over the recurring fire incidents in the market every year in the last five years.
“The incessant fire outbreak in the market has become worrisome and I promise that if I become governor come 2019, we shall dialogue with stakeholders in the market towards finding a lasting solution.
“I call on market men and women to be extraordinarily careful in handling fire-prone materials to forestall recurrence.”
