The landlords in Anambra state have received a stern warning from the State government, which emphasizes that, the state would not put up with any further vandalism of the city, which serves as the state’s commercial centre.
In an interactive session, Dr. Ibezim presented the government’s position and revealed intentions to reward efforts towards beautifying the city at the Onitsha South Local Government Area council office. He declared that the first street in Onitsha to finish repainting its buildings between February 1 and March 10, 2024, would win a monetary reward of N10 million.

Speaking to the group, Dr. Ibezim raised concerns about Onitsha’s inadequate waste management procedures and drainage infrastructure. In order to improve the visual attractiveness of the city, he emphasised the need of cleaning clogged drains, properly disposing of trash, planting trees, and repainting buildings.

In accordance with Dr. Ibezim’s observations, Felix Odimegwu, Commissioner for Environment, emphasised the necessity of group efforts to preserve cleanliness and enhance the city’s infrastructure. He emphasised programmes designed to get the community involved in building repainting and sewer cleaning.

Michael Okonkwo, the chairman of the Urban Regeneration Council, stressed the government’s goal of making Onitsha a model city with conditions that are favourable to both business and healthy living. He emphasised how crucial it is to emulate the finest practices seen in industrialised nations.

In response to worries expressed by landlords about double taxation and extortion by purported touts, the government promised to take care of these problems in order to encourage participation in the city’s beautifying initiatives.
