The Anambra State government taskforce, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), has sealed an illegal disinfectant manufacturing facility operating secretly in a residential area of Odume Obosi, Idemili North LGA.

The raid, which took place early Tuesday at 14 Chris Ugoezu Street, followed intelligence-led efforts to clamp down on unsafe and unregulated consumer products within the state. According to OCHA Brigade Managing Director, Celestine Anere, the factory was producing fake antiseptic soaps and disinfectants using unregistered chemicals, counterfeit packaging, and manual equipment.

“These products posed a direct threat to public health,” Anere said during a press briefing in Onitsha. “None were approved by NAFDAC, and we uncovered thousands of fake items ready for distribution.”

Several suspects were arrested, while others fled the scene. Authorities confirmed that interrogations are underway and more arrests are expected.

The facility was described by local residents as “discreet,” with one neighbor, Ikechukwu Ukatwu, expressing shock at the revelation: “We never suspected anything. The operator kept to himself.”
