A family in Georgia, United States, was forced to evacuate after their home was overrun by a bat colony.
Monica and Isaiah Grant relocated from Chicago to Savannah’s Ardsley Park neighbourhood less than a year ago, and they saw their first bat in January. 18.
“We’re thought , ok! Savannah has a lot of bats, so everything’s OK. Monica informed the Savannah Morning News that, they never suspected anything was wrong upon sighting the first bat.
Grant stated that, numerous more bat sightings occurred in the following days, and the family quickly realized that the house had become infested with the flying creatures.
“No one expects this, and I’ve never seen a bat except at the zoo,” Monica Grant told WTOC-TV. “we even saw one in the vent and that’s when we were like we’re done, we can’t do this anymore, something is seriously wrong with this property.”
Grant claims exterminators who visited the house informed her the issue is “worse than anything they have ever seen.”
The couple and their two children, aged two and eight months, are currently residing with a neighbour and received their rabies vaccines as recommended by the Coastal Health District. They’re hoping to raise money for moving expenses.
The City of Savannah issued a code ordinance violation notice and posted it on the property. A municipal representative stated that code enforcement officers are working with the landlord to fix the bat incident.
