Bingham University has forged a significant partnership with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing academic and infrastructural development. The signing ceremony took place on March 25, 2025, at NBRRI’s administrative headquarters in Abuja, led by Bingham University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba.
During the event, Chief Daniel Makava, representing NBRRI’s Director of Consultancy and Extension Services (CES), Arch. Tom Umoche, provided insights into the collaboration. He noted that discussions had commenced back in August 2024, despite the disruptions caused by the nationwide “End Bad Governance” protests. The commitment shown by Bingham University’s delegation highlighted their dedication to establishing this partnership.
A committee was established to outline the scope of the MOU, which encompasses key areas such as Research and Development, Capacity Building, Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), and Community Development. The draft agreement was finalized in October 2024, paving the way for this impactful collaboration.
Prof. Ayuba expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and congratulated Prof. Samson Duna, the Director-General of NBRRI, on his reappointment. He acknowledged NBRRI’s generous donation of 25 solar streetlights to Bingham University, emphasizing that the MOU would be fully realized.
In his remarks, Prof. Duna commended Bingham University’s commitment to research and innovation. He encouraged the institution to develop robust research proposals that NBRRI could support, assuring that students from Bingham University would be welcomed for their SIWES programs. He also emphasized NBRRI’s critical role in ensuring quality assessments for the university’s construction projects, including soil testing and material evaluation.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Engr. Dr. Jibril Sule, who praised the Director-General’s openness to innovation. He emphasized that this agreement represents a win-win situation for both institutions and expressed confidence that, under the DG’s guidance, the MOU would be effectively implemented.
This partnership marks a promising new era of academic and infrastructural excellence, fostering research-driven solutions and enhancing capacity building for both Bingham University and NBRRI.
