In a recent attack by suspected Boko Haram militants in Gujba town, Yobe State, significant property damage occurred alongside the tragic death of a local vigilante, Modu Bulama. The assault took place on Saturday night, leaving the community in shock.
The insurgents targeted homes and businesses, destroying 12 blocks of rooms and eight shops, primarily owned by vigilante members and local entrepreneurs. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers moved systematically through the town, searching for members of the vigilante group.
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed that the violence directly affected around 57 individuals from 14 households. Dr. Goje Muhammad, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, expressed condolences to Bulama’s family, who leaves behind two wives and seven children.
Governor Mai Mala Buni condemned the attack and promised increased security measures to protect residents and their properties. This incident marks another chapter in the ongoing security crisis facing communities in Yobe State, which has seen repeated assaults by insurgents in recent months.
