Gunmen suspected of being Boko Haram insurgents  have murdered two construction workers and abducted three grasshopper hunters in Kukareta village on the Maiduguri Road in Yobe State’s Damaturu Local Government Area.

The terrorists assaulted the town on Sunday about 3:00 a.m., firing randomly for nearly an hour before kidnapping three people who had come to the area to hunt grasshoppers.

Alhaji Lawan Babagana, the town’s district chief, informed the media  that the terrorists burned  down his house and 504 Peugeot automobile, killed two individuals, and abducted three others he was hosting.

“They assaulted the town about 3 a.m. on Sunday, firing intermittently, setting fire to my house, razing my 504 Peugeot car, and destroying one house in town.

“I was hosting five people at my house, two of them were construction workers recruited from Adamawa by the Northeast Development Commission to help build Kukareta Market.

“As you know, as a traditional monarch, I used to welcome visitors to my domain. These boys (Boko Haram terrorists) dragged these workers out of my house and shot them instantaneously.

“I was entertaining three grasshopper hunters at my place. They (terrorists) chained the hunters and grabbed them in a vigilante car parked outside my house.

“The police operatives have evacuated the remains of the construction workers and taken them to a specialist hospital in Damaturu,” the chief said.
