A building designated for Smart School quarters in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has collapsed just days after the contract for its construction was revoked.
The contract was originally awarded by the previous administration of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) under Mr. Dan’Azimi. Following an inspection of the site by the new NSUBEB chairman, Mohammed Kassim, it became evident that the building failed to meet safety standards due to poor construction.
Dr. Kassim, dissatisfied with the quality of the work, ordered an immediate halt to the project and called for the contractor to meet him at the site. However, the contractor did not appear, and shortly afterward, the structure collapsed following a rainfall.
In response to this incident, Dr. Kassim has issued a strong warning to all contractors, stating that he will not compensate anyone involved in substandard work. The contractor behind the Smart School project has been summoned to explain the unexpected collapse.
