The Federal Government has revealed that it has set aside N7.13 billion to compensate persons impacted by the current demolitions for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

The Minister of works, Engr David Umahi, made this announcement , Wednesday evening while speaking with journalists at his residence in Centenary City, Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

“As we speak, the demolition of shanties and some infrastructure is ongoing, he said.

“We have paid compensation of about N2.7 billion, and we will begin to disburse another N7.13 billion in compensation starting Monday,” Umahi added.

He noted that the federal government aims to complete the first section of the highway, which spans 47.47 kilometres, by May next year.

He further stated that, a toll gate would be constructed to generate a return on investment.

“Section one is 47.47 kilometres, and we are working very quickly to ensure that by May 29th, we will have completed this section. We will then commission it with a toll gate, enabling the government to recoup its investment through toll revenue,” he stated.
