The Nigerian Society of Engineers’ Election slated for November 29 and 30 has been halted by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
Furthermore, in order to give the court time to hear and rule on the substantive matter, Justice Venchak Gaba barred Mrs Margaret Oguntala, the fourth defendant, from presenting herself as the deputy president of the NSE.
An order of interlocutory injunction was also granted by the judge, preventing Oguntala, the fourth defendant, from being inaugurated as the elected President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. This order applies to the first through third defendants, their representatives, agents, privies, the NSE Electoral Panel, its Council and Board of Trustees, and/or anybody acting through them.
The claimant’s substantive complaint before the court will be decided upon until the NSE, its Council, the NSE Electoral Panel, the Board of Trustees, and/or anybody acting through them maintain the status quo, this was stated by Justice Gaba, who set January 25, 2024, for the substantive suit’s hearing.
The order was obtained on Sunday in response to a move on notice filed on Friday, November 24, 2023, through the attorneys of the claimant, Salisu Umar, A.A. Liman, and Charles Ikechukwu. The motion was titled M/490/23.
The NSE, its Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Emeka Eze, the Chairman of the NSE 2021 Election Appeal, Charles Mbanefo, and Oguntala were listed as defendants by the claimant, Joseph Akinteye, who ran for office in the 2021 NSE election, in the substantive suit designated CV/158/21.
