A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced Alhaji Inuwa Ayuba to two months in prison for the illegal felling of seven neem trees in Sarauniya village, Dawakin Tofa local government area. The prosecution, led by Barrister Bahijja Aliyu, presented evidence from a monitoring team of the Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which acted on a tip-off regarding the unlawful tree cutting.

Ayuba was found guilty of violating the Kano State Environmental, Forestry, and Pollution Control Laws, which prohibit cutting down trees without proper authorization. In addition to the jail term, Ayuba has the option to pay a fine and is required to plant 14 neem trees as part of his penalty.

Dr. Dahiru Hashim, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, commended the enforcement team and stated that the conviction serves as a deterrent against illegal activities harming the environment. The government reiterated its commitment to protecting natural resources for future generations.
