The Cross River State Government has officially transferred 31 hectares of land in Adiabo, Calabar, to the Family Home Fund for the development of a women’s housing scheme. This initiative is part of the National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (NPRGS) aimed at supporting widows and vulnerable women in the region.
The project will involve the construction of 70 two-bedroom apartments, expected to be completed by March 2025. Dr. Ekamem Ekpo, Special Adviser to the governor on Social Housing, praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to improving the lives of rural women and commended Governor Bassey Otu for facilitating the project’s progress.
Dr. Ekpo emphasized the importance of youth involvement in the project, noting that many will receive training in modern building technologies. The initiative aims to empower women while fostering community development.
The team later visited the Obono of Calabar, Spider Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, to discuss the housing scheme’s significance for the local community.
