Vendors, peddlers and beggars along the Agege train lines have been issued a warning by the Lagos State Government and the Agege Local Government council to leave the area, this comes ahead of the scheduled demolition of illegal buildings in the area.
The council issued the warning during an expanded stakeholders meeting with a few local residents on Sunday. At the meeting, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, the Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pension, said that he had received information on a variety of illicit activities occurring along the rail line.
According to him, criminals who attacked homes and onlookers at night were being housed in some of the shanties in the area.
The commissioner made a plea to the community and market leaders to enlighten the residents and traders to shun trading on the railway lines to avoid being arrested. He also stated that, the joint enforcement will soon begin and anybody arrested will face the wrath of the law.
