Nigerians in the Diaspora are urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crisis surrounding the diversion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, particularly affecting the Okun-Ajah community. Stella Okengwu, a representative of the diasporans and a member of WinHomes Global Estate, expressed concerns over the Ministry of Works’ decision to divert the road, which resulted in significant property damage.

In a statement, Okengwu highlighted that many diasporans had invested heavily in the Nigerian real estate sector, motivated by the government’s call for Foreign Direct Investment. She emphasized the need for Tinubu’s intervention to protect these investments, particularly in light of a recent demolition of the estate to facilitate the road construction.

The diasporans demand adherence to the original 2006 gazetted route, which they believe would have safeguarded their investments and property rights. They had conducted due diligence and secured all necessary permits from the Lagos State Government prior to construction.

This appeal comes amid broader discussions about infrastructural developments and their impact on local communities and investments.
