A devastating explosion involving a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has claimed the life of its driver and left one other person injured. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning on Ojoo/Iwo Road Expressway near Fijabi House.
According to Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the tanker lost control, collided with two other trucks, and subsequently somersaulted into a nearby pit before bursting into flames.
Emergency services received a distress call at approximately 2:45 a.m. and promptly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found three trucks engulfed in fire, with the driver tragically burnt to death. The motor boy was rescued and transported to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for treatment.
Akinyinka emphasized that the fire was contained swiftly, preventing it from spreading to adjacent residential areas. The tanker was completely destroyed, but the other two trucks were salvaged by the fire service team, which included police and other security agencies to ensure public safety.
This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns surrounding fuel transport in Nigeria, as authorities continue to address the risks associated with tanker operations.
