A legal dispute over a prime piece of land in Abuja has escalated, with lawyer Alexander Oketa accusing officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of misconduct. In a letter addressed to the EFCC Chairman, Oketa alleges that operatives unlawfully seized and sealed off a property located at Plot 680-689, Cadastral Zone Bo6, Mabushi, Abuja.
This action was reportedly taken despite multiple court rulings affirming Jona Brothers Construction Limited and its partner, Uche Vincent, as the rightful owners. Oketa contends that the EFCC’s involvement in this civil land dispute is unwarranted and threatens legal action against the commission.
In a related development, the EFCC recently returned four recovered title documents to victims of an elaborate land fraud scheme in Abuja. The documents, falsified by a criminal syndicate, had deprived legitimate landowners of their properties. Acting on actionable intelligence, EFCC investigators dismantled the syndicate and retrieved the forged documents, which were handed over to the rightful owners on Tuesday.
These incidents highlight the complex challenges surrounding land ownership and fraud in Abuja, underscoring the need for due process and adherence to legal protocols in resolving such disputes.
