The atmosphere of the Administrative Headquarters Abuja of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) on Wednesday 4th October, 2023 was joyously clad with praises on the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Engr. Prof. Samson Duna when the management of NBRRI Led by the DG/CEO played host to two great and renowned organizations, a publishing body ‘The Waves Publishers’, and a notable Socio-Cultural organization from the South-West, ‘The Oodua Youth Parliament’ who came to decorate the DG/CEO with honors of “African Meritorious Achievers Award” from Waves Publishers, and a traditional title as “Mayegun of Oodua Youth Parliament”, meaning “Leader of Peace” by the great Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP).
The groups in their different presentations applauded the Management of NBRRI for their good works in the country since its institution in 1978, and also appreciated Prof. Duna for his good works and outstanding performance he has shown since he took over office as DG NBRRI in 2020.
While presenting the Achievers Award’s Plague and Certificate to the DG, Mr. Ike Godwin who led the team from Waves Publishers stated that the publishing house has been monitoring the activities of NBRRI with keen interest for the past 19 years and gave a high commendation on the performance of NBRRI mainly its positive impact in education, housing, road intervention and procurement process which he says is 100 percent transparent as required.
Mr. Ike also spoke on the teamwork he noticed between the staff and management of NBRRI and commended the DG for such a good leadership style. He then pleaded for more collaborations with NBRRI so as to be part of blowing the trumpet of NBRRI positively to the world.
In the same way, the leader of the delegation from Oodua Youth Parliament who happens to be the speaker of the Parliament, Aare Abdumajeed Oyeniyi spoke and sang praises about the good works of NBRRI and the great achievements of the Prof. Duna’s led management team. He stated that based on their findings, there is no state within the South-West axis that the research findings of NBRRI is not felt and demonstrated for the betterment of the area. He further stressed that the most catchy area to them is the educational impact the institute is making in building schools and donations of equipment to higher institutions across the country.
Speaking further, Aare Abdulmajeed encouraged the DG and his team to continue the good work in building a viable country and extending a great deal of assistance to the development of the youths via educational system. After the presentation of the certificate to the DG, the Speaker promised to come on a later date to deliver the full Yoruba regalia of the title as required to the DG.
In appreciation and response to both organizations, Engr. Prof. Samson Duna commended both bodies for the good works they are doing mainly in the area of monitoring agencies to make sure agencies and organizations are up to their best in performance for the growth of the country. He also appreciated them for recognizing the valued input of NBRRI in the society at large. He also explained areas that NBRRI has intervened in relation to the institute’s mandate mainly building collapse, bridges, roads, schools, hospitals, skills centers and so on and that there is no local government in the country that NBRRI’s supervised projects are not located. All these he stated are mainly constituency projects brought into NBRRI for supervision by Law-Makers because of the good track records of NBRRI.
Finally, Prof. Duna encouraged them to continue promoting good works and charged Oodua Youth Parliament not to relent in promoting the good cultural heritage of Nigeria and do what they can do best. He promised his full support to the Yoruba land and also for the betterment of the country.
