Chief Executive Officer, Viewpoint Housing Media Ltd, Mall. Ahmed Abubakar Goringo has urged the federal government to ensure effective land administration system to achieve access to affordable housing in the country.
Goringo, who made the call in an interview in Abuja, also called for the transfer of the vision 2020 in the economic transformation blueprint to vision 2030 for effective implementation.
He identified: “The establishment of an efficient and transparent land title transfer system that simplifies existing land procedures for effective title and consent delivery.
“The establishment of an effective legal and regulatory framework to monitor and enforce housing delivery, such as a National Housing Commission that would regulate the housing sector.”
The expert also called for the recapitalization of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to have a link between the mortgage market and the capital market.
“Privatizing the Federal Housing Authority to compete with other players in the industry would boost mass housing in the country,” he said.
Goringo urged the government to provide incentives and the necessary legal and regulatory environment that would attract Public Private Partnership in mass housing development.
“Rehabilitating all existing professional, technical and vocational training centres and building new ones to ensure sustainable production of skilled manpower for housing industry.
“ reducing the cost of production of houses by developing and promoting appropriates designs and production of technologies for housing sector”.
He urged the government to provide adequate funding for research and development to improve the availability and affordability of building materials in the country.
