Mr Amos Anosike, a Warri-based environmentalist, has advised prospective builders to always consult professionals before erecting their structures.

Anosike, who gave the tasked in Warri, said the idea would help to address the incessant building collapse in the country.

According to the town planning consultant, many people like to cut cost by engaging unprofessional to their detriment.

“My advice to the prospective builders is that they should engage professional builders so that they will not end up losing their building in the short run.

“The issue of building collapse in recent times in the country is worrisome and it is even more worrisome when people die along with it.

“The professionals know the nature of the soil, the load it can carry and the quality of the building materials to be used.

“So, it is idea to engage professionals to avoid a tale of penny wise, pounds foolish,” he said.

Speaking on the drainage system in Warri, Anosike urged  the residents to adopt community-help to clear their drains rather than always waiting for the government.

He said that the Delta government had a lot of commitment with the available meagre resources.

“Government has a lot of challenges to confront with and it is better for people to also assist by coming together as community to clear their drains.

“The economy is weak, government does not have sufficient funds so everything should not be left alone on the shoulder of the government,” he said.

The environmental expert appealed to the public to desist from erecting buildings indiscriminately and dumping refuse into the channels to avoid blockages of the waterways. NAN
