The Ekiti State Government on Tuesday started work on a N3.3bn water supply project that would serve all parts of the state.
Governor Kayode Fayemi said the project, jointly financed by the state government and World Bank under the Third National Urban Water Sector Reform Project, would also make the state water corporation get revenue to sustain water supply to the people.
Fayemi, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during the commencement of the 251 kilometres pipeline distribution project across the state, said the project was part of his administration’s ways of giving dividends of democracy to the populace and ensuring good hygiene for the citizens through provision of potable water.
The governor, who warned that activities of vandals and non-payment of bills by water consumers could mar the project, urged the people to guard against these for the sustainability of the project.
Fayemi said, “We are going to ensure that there is no arbitrary billing and I want you to live up to expectations by protecting public utilities in your domains and pay your bills so that it will enable us to make more IGR for the state.”
In his remarks, the General Manager, Ekiti State Water Corporation, Olabisi Agbeyo, said the pipeline extension project became imperative due to population explosion in Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
Agbeyo said the programme would benefit residents of Olorunsogo, Ikingbinsin, Olorunda and others. PUNCH.
