The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of infrastructure development in the FCT over the past year.
Wike made this statement following his inspection of ongoing road construction in Gishiri and the Justices’ Quarters in Abuja on Monday. Although he refrained from providing extensive details, he emphasized that the public would ultimately evaluate his performance.
“Only the public will assess my performance against set targets. I can’t set exams for myself, mark and grade myself. It is for the public to assess,” he remarked.
The minister noted the presence of a presidential monitoring team responsible for evaluating the deliverables of the projects. He stated, “I am generally satisfied with what the government has accomplished in the FCT.”
During his inspection, Wike expressed his admiration for the progress made in constructing the Justices’ Quarters and the surrounding road network. He is optimistic that the project will be completed and delivered by May 2025.
“The level of work at the quarters is amazing. The last time we visited, we couldn’t reach this point. The contractor has successfully finished major culverts on the roads surrounding the quarters,” he said.
Wike also inspected the construction of an interchange along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, extending from Ahmadu Bello Way to the Gishiri community. He urged the local community to provide support to facilitate the completion of these projects, which will enhance infrastructure in Mabushi and the adjoining districts of Katampe, Jahi, and Kado.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the compensation department would assess the value of compensation for any houses affected by the road project.
