Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been reminded of the critical importance of keeping their surroundings clean as a preventative measure against diseases like Lassa fever and other epidemics.
Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), made this appeal during a recent visit to waste collection and dumpsite areas in Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
In a statement from STDD’s Public Relations Officer, Meeme Felicia, Zulkiflu emphasized that waste management is a collective responsibility, stating, “Waste collection is not a one-man affair,” and urged everyone to contribute to maintaining a clean environment.
He cautioned contractors against neglecting waste management and allowing overgrowth in areas under their care, warning that the FCT minister would withhold payments if proper maintenance is not observed.
This initiative aims to foster community involvement in environmental stewardship and public health.
