The FCT ministerial task team on traffic free flow in Abuja has demolished fences of a bank and other commercial buildings in Dutsen Alhaji following the expiration of the 72 hours ultimatum issued to them by the team.
Bulldozers deployed by the team pulled down parts of the perimeter fence of a commercial bank and other commercial buildings located by the roadside on the busy Dutsen Alhaji- Bwari road.
The task team, which handed a 72-hour ultimatum to the owners of the affected properties had directed them to use their approved entrance point which was behind the main street.
The property owners were also directed to close their current entrance, which the team said is a violation of the approved building plan.
Also, the bulldozers dismantled makeshift structures on the street, just behind the commercial properties to ensure their owners easy access to their plots.
Equally, cement and wood dealers who were allegedly trading illegally on the street were cleared.
Speaking to journalists during the exercise, chairman of the task team, Ikharo Attah said the exercise was a demonstration of FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello’s determination to rid the city of gridlock.
“What happened here is a distortion of the approved Land Use Act. The entrance of the commercial properties are contributing immensely to the traffic bottleneck on the Dutsen Alhaji to Bwari road,” he said.
