The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has established a Building Contravention Task Force aimed at curbing illegal construction activities and monitoring compliance with building regulations in Abuja. The initiative is intended to complement the work of the Department of Development Control.
The Task Force was inaugurated by Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, who urged members to identify ongoing developments and assess their adherence to approved building plans. He emphasized the importance of the Task Force in enforcing compliance and taking necessary actions against violations, including issuing Contravention Notices and imposing penalties.
Obuah clarified that the Task Force is not a replacement for the Development Control Department but a supportive body with a specific timeline. He instructed the Task Force to conduct regular inspections across various districts in the Federal Capital Territory and report on compliance levels.
The Task Force, chaired by Engr. Osah Gabriel Azunuka, includes members with diverse expertise in building and construction. The initiative is part of the FCTA’s broader effort to enhance urban planning and ensure safe development practices within the capital.
