The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will, from Monday, May 26, commence the physical takeover of 4,794 properties across Abuja due to unpaid ground rent spanning up to 43 years.
FCT officials, at a press briefing on Friday, said the revocations were legal under Section 28 of the Land Use Act. Properties affected include those in Central Area, Garki I & II, Wuse I & II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape.
The administration had earlier identified over 8,000 defaulting properties, including the PDP National Secretariat site, with total debts exceeding N6.96 billion. While a 21-day grace was given to those owing less than 10 years’ rent, that window has closed.
Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, confirmed the absence of any court ruling halting the revocations, stating the FCTA will seal off properties and restrict access starting Monday.
The affected properties are located in ten major districts within Phase 1 of the Federal Capital City.
