An expert in building construction works, Bldr. Mrs. Florence Akinyoade has said that the built industry in the country is beginning to see an influx of female artisans who she believes are good at ensuring quality job delivery at construction sites. She affirmed that this could be a way that can help curb the tide of building collapse in the country.

She revealed this while speaking with Viewpoint Housing News in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

Akinyoade, a retiree from the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, said women who are known to be careful in carrying out duties or tasks, is the reason they would want to be proud of having a quality work done, ensuring a good legacy.

“Now, you can see a lot of artisans that are females, she said.

“When we talk of building collapses, we have the workers who are called artisans doing the primary work, those are the people we need to deal (work) with.

“This time around, we are standing to it because this building collapse that happens frequently, we are tired of it. That is why the focus is on the artisans now, a lot of women are involved in artisan jobs, trying to do what the men do because, it’s a field dominated by the males.

“We the women are trying to come up with innovations. What they (males) can do, we will do better. Women are more caring and they want to ensure that what they are doing, they do it right, getting quality out of it.

“They want to be proud of that quality, always trying to be very careful. Even right now, we have a building that we are constructing that is solely handled by the women. If you want to see it, come with us at the AEDC Estate, we are there building.

“So, we are getting the female artisans, training them daily to ensure that they get it right. We have the best female electrician, the best female plumber, the best female tiller. We are going to award them by the Grace of God in my investiture that is coming up next month, Akinyoade added.
