The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has raised concerns over acts of sabotage affecting the ongoing Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway project. During an inspection on November 8, 2025, Goronyo urged community leaders along the route to discourage residents from damaging road infrastructure.

He reported that the contractor is actively working on the project, which is progressing well. However, he highlighted troubling behaviors such as the removal of iron rods and damage to completed projects, which have been attributed to individuals known as “Baba Bola” who collect scrap.

Goronyo emphasized the significance of maintaining road infrastructure for safety and efficiency, warning that destructive actions could undermine the government’s significant investments in the project. He called for community support in protecting the roads, stressing that well-maintained roads enhance travel safety and reduce insecurity.

The Director of Federal Highways, Clement Ogbuagu, praised the contractor’s progress and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering the project on time. He noted that the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway is one of Nigeria’s fastest-progressing road construction projects, with high-quality work being reported.
