The Federal Government has pledged to assist Nigerians living abroad who are keen to purchase property in their homeland. Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, further promised to foster an environment that will make it simpler, safer, and more profitable for the private sector to participate in the building sector during his speech at the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit in Abuja.
Dangiwa stated that, about $24 billion is sent back to Nigeria each year by Nigerians living abroad for a range of commercial endeavours, such as home building and housing.
The minister applauded the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) for supporting a number of policies and initiatives, such as the Diaspora City project, which aims to assist the nation in utilizing the enormous potential of the diaspora in order to boost the economy across a number of sectors.
The minister added that land management will be simplified and that some of the improvements in the housing sector will be especially interesting to the diaspora who are interested in real estate and housing investments.
Abike Dabiri, the Chairperson of NIDCOM, bemoaned the systemic inefficiencies and bureaucratic bottlenecks that prevent citizens and investors in the nation from having affordable and efficient access to land.

Through the Diaspora City initiative, Dabiri added, they will continue to contribute to the development of infrastructure and the economy. Over time, they have observed an increase in the number of Nigerians in the diaspora who recognise and value the creative drive.
“To highlight its universality, the project is constructed with mansions, semi-detached duplexes, and cottages. The intention is to provide adequate housing for Nigerians residing overseas,” she asserted.
