The federal government has declared that, it would not stand by and watch as the cost of cement continued to skyrocket. As a result, cement producers have been invited to a meeting by Minister of Works David Umahi on Monday to discuss the concerns raised by the most recent development. Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and the other manufacturers are anticipated at the meeting.
“We are worried by the escalating cost of cement despite huge patronage by road & housing contractors to cement manufacturers,” stated Uchenna Orji, Special Advisor to the Minister of works on Media.
“It is common knowledge that the manufacturers have their challenges, which we shall look into but from our findings, the disparity between ex-factory price & the market price is wide,” the minister was quoted as saying.
“Therefore, in order to find a common front, we need to investigate the situation and other issues.” Cement can now be purchased for anywhere from N10,000 to N15000 per bag.
