The Federal Government has called upon quantity surveyors to maintain high standards of cost control, contract management, and value optimisation in national infrastructure projects, emphasizing that Nigeria can no longer tolerate project wastage or inflated costs.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, speaking at the 2025 NIQS Biennial Conference in Abuja, highlighted the necessity of fiscal discipline in public expenditure and procurement. He urged quantity surveyors to act as partners in rebuilding Nigeria, stressing the importance of integrity and transparency in project execution.

Shettima outlined ongoing infrastructure initiatives aimed at job creation and national competitiveness, including transport corridor improvements, energy infrastructure expansion, and housing investments. He advocated for adopting AI-enabled monitoring and establishing a national infrastructure cost database to enhance governance in procurement.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, echoed the Vice President’s sentiments, urging quantity surveyors to uphold integrity and ensure efficient design and accountability in national development programs.

NIQS President, Mr. Kene Nzekwe, emphasized the pivotal role quantity surveyors play in cost management and project delivery, asserting that their skills are critical for improving living standards and promoting economic diversification.
