In line with the economic realities of the country, Minister of works, Sen. David Umahi has called on road contractors to reduce their contract costs.
In his remarks during a visit to the country by the Association of Ministry of Works’ Contractors (AMWC), Umahi explained the purpose of this is to have everybody contribute towards alleviating Nigerians’ sufferings.
The minister expressed gratitude to the group for its encouragement, support, and collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works’ new initiatives and programmes.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing equal opportunities and a level playing field for indigenous contractors in the contract award process. He also urged all contractors to strictly adhere to job specifications and procurement guidelines, as well as to the highest standards for road infrastructure.
Regarding the sponsored blackmail and lies frequently spread by his critics, he said it was to be anticipated from someone who aspires to a constructive shift from “the business as usual” mentality of some contractors.
