The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State for essential repair work that will last 21 days, starting from Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 7:00 a.m.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the closure will affect some sections of the bridge entirely, while others will be partially closed during the maintenance period.
The repair works will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings and carry out other critical maintenance to improve safety and comfort for motorists and pedestrians.
Kesha acknowledged the likely inconvenience but stressed that the repairs are necessary to keep the bridge structurally sound and safe. She assured that traffic diversions have been planned, with traffic officials on the ground to manage the situation and guide motorists.
She appealed to residents, commuters, and business owners to plan ahead and cooperate during the repair period. Safety signs and traffic management tools will be deployed to reduce disruption
