The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that a fire broke out in a generator house at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research on Oshodi Road. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
LASEMA received a distress call around 10:20 PM, prompting the activation of its response team from Cappa Base in Oshodi. Upon their arrival at 10:22 PM, they found the generator house fully engulfed in flames. Initial findings indicated that the fire was caused by overheating from the operational generator.
Oke-Osanyintolu noted that while approximately 80 percent of the generator house was destroyed, there were no reported injuries or fatalities. He also mentioned that the fire was effectively contained, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. The fire has since been extinguished, and damping down operations have been completed.
