A fire outbreak has ravaged two rooms in an eight-room residential building at Agboola Compound, Ita-Kure, in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. The incident occurred around 10:33 a.m. on Saturday and was quickly contained by the Kwara State Fire Service, preventing further damage to the property.
Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed that preliminary investigations indicated the blaze was caused by a power surge. Firefighters acted promptly after receiving a distress call, saving the remaining sections of the building from significant loss.
Following the incident, Falade Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, emphasized the importance of electrical safety to prevent future fires. He advised residents to install surge protectors and seek professional help for regular electrical system checks, noting that many household fires stem from poor wiring and substandard electrical materials.
The fire service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property in Kwara State, especially as the region has seen an increase in fire outbreaks recently, often linked to electrical faults and negligence. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and proactive in taking safety measures, particularly during the dry season when fire incidents are more prevalent.
