A devastating fire has engulfed several shops in Jattu-Uzairue, located in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, causing significant losses estimated in the millions of naira.
The blaze reportedly began on Wednesday morning from shops near Jattu market along the Auchi-Agenebode road, ignited by a cooking gas explosion in one of the establishments.
Footage from the incident shows traders and onlookers desperately trying to extinguish the flames, but their efforts were hampered by the lack of firefighters in the vicinity. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the fire, but the destruction of goods has deeply impacted the local economy.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, expressed his condolences to the affected traders, highlighting the severe damage to both property and livelihoods. He assured them of the state government’s commitment to providing necessary support.
“The government is collaborating with relevant agencies, including the Fire Service and State Emergency Management Agency, to assess the damage and deliver immediate relief,” he stated.
