A fire broke out at the Alagbede Tipper Garage in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State early on March 18, 2025, destroying three out of the 42 trucks parked there. The fire reportedly started around 1:45 a.m. from a waste collection truck that had refuse inside, which contained lit charcoal that smoldered and eventually ignited.
Firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service responded quickly, managing to contain the fire and limit the damage. Principal Fire Officer Hassan Adekunle confirmed that the fire was successfully extinguished, preventing further spread.
In a separate incident on March 17, a fire at a shop on Awolowo Road in Tanke, Ilorin, was also contained by firefighters, who emphasized the importance of fire safety measures, especially regarding solar power systems.
The Kwara State Fire Service director urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
