A petrol tanker fire engulfed a fuel station in Itam, near Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in the early hours of Saturday. The Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident and stated that there were no casualties. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

“We received reports of the fire outbreak in Itam, and officers were dispatched to the scene. Thankfully, there were no casualties, and the investigation is ongoing,” ASP John said.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted when a truck delivering Premium Motor Spirit to the station caught fire. Thick smoke from the blaze quickly drew a large crowd, who watched as Fire Service personnel worked to extinguish the flames.

Local motorists expressed their concerns about the incident, emphasizing the importance of safety. “What we are afraid of is it resulting in a loss of life. The property and resources lost might be regained, but we don’t want any human life to be affected,” remarked one motorist.
