An overnight fire at Sango-Oju Irin market in Oyo State’s Ibadan North Local Government Area has damaged over 20 shops and destroyed commodities worth millions of naira.

Hon. Oluwayemisi Adeagbo, the councillor representing Ibadan North Local Government, Ward 8, who was there at the time of the incident, stated that no lives were lost.
Alh. Azeez Mustafa, the Babaloja of Sango Oju Irin market, urged the government to assist the injured traders, stressing that the occurrence was terrible, particularly given the country’s present economic reality.

“The fire started as an effect of an electrical fault. Most of the affected traders just   restocked. Our people decided to take out a loan in order to stock up as much as possible due to the daily rise in inflation. We urge the government and well-meaning Nigerians to assist so that the massive losses do not lead to health problems for the victims,” he added.
