More than 10,000 people have been displaced from their homes and at least 41 persons have been confirmed dead by flood in Jigawa state.
The head of the country’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Jigawa state, Yusuf Sani Babura told journalists that many families whose houses were destroyed are now staying in temporary shelters (IDPs) in public schools.
Many farmers have also lost their livelihoods after crops and livestock were washed away.
A number of environmental experts have criticized what they call the poor preparations of the authorities to mitigate the effects of widespread flooding in Nigeria as it has affected many other states including Benue recently.
