in an effort to foster synergy between the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Nigerian labour unions, the Bank’s top management hosted a delegation from the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) on Thursday, January 18, 2024. The visit was primarily aimed at reaffirming the positives within the context of the organisations’ partnership and identifying and bridging existing gaps for a more beneficial relationship.
Upon welcoming the delegation, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FMBN, Mr. Madu Hamman, underscored the significance of collaboration, emphasizing its importance to the Bank’s successes and achievements in delivering affordable housing for Nigerian workers.
“If we do not collaborate with the numerous labor centres whose members are the primary contributors to the National Housing Fund (NHF), we will not be performing our duties effectively. We take seriously the fact that the Bank’s achievement will be determined by the kinds of partnerships we have with the various organisations.
The MD stated that the FMBN is prepared to take part in and support NECA’s forthcoming events, particularly the Labour Forum in February, which he highlighted is essential for knowledge sharing and learning.
Mr. Hamman highlighted the importance of housing as a basic human need and presented FMBN’s upcoming housing projects, the Mega and Mini City projects, which are presently undergoing assessment. This is one of the Bank’s largest housing projects, with plans to build 1,500 units of housing in Lagos and Abuja. He made hints that, if clearances are finalised, intentions are to launch the project by the end of the first quarter.
He continued by appealing to visitors to make the most of their collaboration and invest in the Bank’s programmes, especially the forthcoming Mega and Mini City projects and the Cooperative Housing Development Loan, from which he mentioned that several NECA employees had already benefitted.
The NECA Director General, Mr. Adewale Oyerinde, expressed appreciation to the FMBN for the collaboration, noting that the Bank “had shown face and good faith in NECA’s programmes, which have deepened the partnership” between the two organisations. “Not all agencies, even when they have a good understanding of their stakeholders, open themselves up to the kind of collaboration that NECA has enjoyed with the FMBN,” he said.
He Intimated the FMBN on NECA’s upcoming programmes, requesting the Bank’s participation and support. He noted that the Labour Forum, which would witness the attendance of the “who-is-who” in the Nigerian Labour ecosystem will be coming up on February 3, 2023, while the third edition of the Employees’ Summit will be held in June.
