Four persons sustained injuries on Monday after a residential apartment collapsed in Riyom Local Government Council of Plateau State.
Residents said the building collapsed after heavy rainfall which began on Sunday evening and lasted for several hours till in the early hours of Monday.
A resident of the community, Dusu Judith, confirmed the incident. Judith said that the house located around the Government College, Riyom, collapsed in the early hours of Monday while the families were asleep, injuring four persons in the process.
Judith said, “The people were sleeping in their house last night when the building caved in. Luckily, no death was recorded but four persons were injured. Those injured were mostly children and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.’
Another resident, Bot Rwang, who also confirmed the incident, described the collapsed building as shocking.
“We thank God that several family members living in the house escaped death by a whisker when it caved in on Monday morning. It is God who saved them because it is shocking how they escaped looking at the structure which collapsed completely with the debris on the ground”, Rwang said.
