The Nigerian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Sen. Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora, Tuesday at a ‘Special Seminar on Building Collapse’, in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, with the theme Review of Building Collapse in Nigeria, A Critical Outlook and The Way Forward, said the hazard posed by frequent building collapse in the country has led stakeholders into “an unending search for solution”.
He said one of the objectives of the seminar, organized by the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) was to address this dreadful trend.

Olorunnimbe also added that the hurtful loss of lives and properties caused by building collapse across the country will be curtailed if seminars such as this is frequently organized.
“The hazard of building collapse in Nigeria is not abating, restricted or selective, he began.
“It has led stakeholders into an unending search for solution which I believe this gathering will address. The painful destruction of of personal properties and loss of lives that accompany the collapse could have been significantly reduced if this kind of seminars are organized periodically to sensitize the public”.
The Minister also praised NBRRI’s efforts in showing commitment and positivity in “consistently organizing highly educative and informative forum” which he said has become an encouragement for those in the road and built environment.
“The Institute has consistently organized highly educative and informative forum which has become a rallying point for stakeholders in the road and built environment, construction sector from all background, especially the academia, research institutes, professional bodies, industry and (the) government, the Minister continued.
“It is on this basis that it will not be out of place to say that NBRRI is among the agencies of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation that have shown commitment and positive efforts towards actualizing the overall objectives of the present administration’s agenda for transformation”, he added.
While encouraging NBRRI to strive more towards addressing other critical issues that need immediate attention in the road and building sectors of the nation’s economy and not rest on its oars, the Minister pledged the support of his Ministry in achieving the goals and visions set to making the Institute a reliable center of global repute and standard.
